이서진 작가의 설치미술(모니터와 돌들이 반복적으로 늘어 놓아진) 은 고 박현기 작가의 70~80년대의 작업을 계승합니다. 기술의 산물인 모니터와 자연의 부분인 돌이 마주하면서 감상자는 무엇이 물질이고 무엇이 환영인지 의문을 갖게 됩니다. 실제 작가는 박사학위 논문에서 박현기 작가의 미학/철학적 직결점을 참고하며 <수평적 명상>에 대한 작업을 했습니다. 그러나, 이<스쳐 지나간 외계성 간전체>의 경우는 고 백남준 작가의 <기술문명의 건축적 축조> 쪽으로 더 가까워 지는 과정이라고 말합니다. 수직으로 방향성이 다른 탑 시리즈는 물질과 이미지 간의 긴장을 바닥에만 두지 않고 위로 뻗어나가는 확장작업입니다. 비계 파이프와 콘크리트, 수직 모니터를 결합해 공간속으로 솟아오르는 미디어 탑으로서 <나는 쌓는다 무너짐을>이란 작업과 그 궤를 같이 하고 있습니다.
Lee Seojin’s installation work—characterized by rhythmic arrangements of monitors and natural stones—inherits the aesthetic legacy of the late pioneer Park Hyunki from the 1970s and 1980s. As the monitor, a product of technological civilization, confronts the stone as a fragment of nature, viewers are prompted to question the boundary between tangible matter and intangible illusion. In their doctoral dissertation, the artist engaged directly with Park Hyunki’s aesthetic and philosophical lineage, centering their early practice on themes of "horizontal meditation."
However, with works such as The Grazed Alien Interstitial (스쳐 지나간 외계성 간전체), the artist describes a decisive transition toward the late Nam June Paik’s "architectural construction of technological civilization." Shifting direction into the vertical dimension, the Pagoda Series refuses to confine the tension between physical materiality and digital imagery to the ground plane, expanding it upward into space. By structurally integrating scaffolding pipes, raw concrete, and vertical monitors, these rising media pagodas share a profound conceptual and tectonic trajectory with I Build, the Collapse (나는 쌓는다 무너짐을).
